Land Rover and Range Rover service costs explained

Technician working underneath a car on a ramp

At the time of writing (September 2026), the RAC's mobile mechanics charge an average of £316.80 for a full service on a Land Rover, and one independent specialist's published starting prices run from £193 to £1,380 plus VAT, depending on the model, the engine and which service is due. The car's service indicator tells you when a service is needed, and the later services in Land Rover's schedule cost more because filters, fluids, spark plugs and transfer box oil fall due. To pay less, find out which service is next, compare quotes like for like against your registration and keep a paper trail that protects the car's value.

What a Land Rover service costs in 2026

Main dealers, which Land Rover calls retailers, quote service prices against your registration, so the clearest public figures come from Land Rover itself, the RAC and independent specialists.

For cars over three years old, participating Land Rover retailers price work under the Beyond 3 Year Service & Maintenance Programme: nationally agreed labour rates, engine oil prices and 15% off Genuine Parts. Land Rover's Mid-Service Check, a 48 point inspection with fluid top ups, costs £99. The RAC's averages, calculated in the last quarter of 2025, are £255.75 for an interim service and £316.80 for a full one.

An independent Land Rover specialist's list of starting prices, checked in September 2026 and quoted before VAT, shows how the bill climbs through the schedule:

  • Range Rover Sport 3.0 six cylinder diesel: £467 for the first service at 21,000 miles or 24 months, £690 for the second and £816 for the third.

  • Range Rover 4.4 V8 petrol: £299 for the 12 month oil service, then £744 at 32,000 miles, when eight spark plugs and new brake fluid are due.

  • Current Range Rover Evoque 2.0 diesel: £332, £468 and £623 for the first three services.

Servicing at Wheels VT starts from £125 plus VAT. Ask for the price of the service your car is due, against its registration and mileage.

Why the second and third services cost more

Each later stage adds parts to the oil and filter change. On that list, the second service on the four and six cylinder engines adds air filters, plus a fuel filter on diesels, and the third adds brake hoses, transfer box oil and a drive belt on the six cylinder diesels. Petrol engines also need new spark plugs at a later stage, as early as the second service on the V8. Land Rover's owner information notes that replacing brake fluid and coolant, due at set intervals, costs extra labour and materials.

Land Rover service intervals: when a service is due

A Land Rover service is due when the car says so. Land Rover calls the system Flexible Service: the car takes account of how and where it is driven and shows a SERVICE message on the instrument panel when a service is needed. Land Rover's owner information calls the printed intervals nominal, and the message can appear sooner after hard driving. A separate OIL message asks for an interim oil check. Time counts as well as miles.

From the 2016 model year, Land Rover's schedule for the Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport set these limits, whichever came first:

  • 2.0 diesel: 21,000 miles or 24 months (16,000 miles or 12 months on the two wheel drive Evoque).

  • 2.2 diesel: 16,000 miles or 12 months.

  • 2.0 petrol: 10,000 miles or 12 months.

Current models follow the same pattern. One independent specialist's price list, checked in September 2026, schedules the six cylinder Range Rover and Range Rover Sport at 21,000 miles or 24 months, and the 4.4 V8 at 16,000 miles or 12 months.

Frequent short journeys, towing, wading, dusty or muddy tracks and salted roads count as arduous use in Land Rover's owner information, and the message centre does not display the arduous schedule, so ask the garage to check it. Be wary of the American and Canadian dealer pages that rank for Range Rover service schedule searches, because Land Rover says some markets have their own service requirements.

Land Rover service plans: what they cost and cover

Land Rover's service plan page lists what the plans include but not what they cost. Its online quote asks for your registration and current mileage, then prices a plan at the retailer you choose.

Land Rover UK's service plan page says the plans suit new and Approved Used vehicles up to 10 years old and run from 12 to 120 months. The price is fixed at sign up for the whole term, you can pay monthly or upfront and add MOT cover, and labour and Genuine Parts cost less once the car is three years old. If you sell, the balance moves to your next Land Rover or comes back as a refund. The terms for plans bought since 1 May 2019 add four points:

  • The total includes a management fee on top of the cost of the services.

  • The plan covers the routine scheduled services only. You pay for other work when you collect the car.

  • Jaguar Land Rover Authorised Repairers carry out the services.

  • Cancelling after the first 14 days costs a cancellation fee, and you pay for any services already used.

Independent servicing and the Land Rover warranty

Servicing at an independent garage does not, in itself, void a Land Rover warranty, provided the garage follows Land Rover's schedule and uses parts of matching quality.

The Competition and Markets Authority's guidance on motor vehicle agreements, published in June 2023 to explain the UK Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Order, says a warranty that depends on routine servicing inside the manufacturer's authorised network is likely to breach competition law, as is a condition insisting on manufacturer branded parts for work outside the warranty. Land Rover's warranty terms fit that position: they exclude repairs needed as a direct result of failing to follow Land Rover's maintenance schedules or to use Land Rover specified parts or fluids "(or parts of equivalent quality)".

The same guidance lets a manufacturer refuse a claim when faulty work or a failed third party part caused the fault, so pick a garage that works to the schedule for your exact car and records every part it fits. Warranty repairs themselves go to a Land Rover Approved Service Centre.

What a proper independent Land Rover service should include

A proper independent service follows Land Rover's schedule for your exact car and leaves a paper trail that proves it. Check for:

  1. The scheduled service for your car's VIN, engine and mileage, not a generic interim or full service.

  2. Engine oil to Land Rover's specification, with Genuine or matching quality filters.

  3. Brake fluid and coolant checked against their replacement dates.

  4. Extras due at that stage, such as spark plugs or transfer box oil, priced before work starts.

  5. The service indicator reset, so the countdown starts again.

  6. A check for open safety recalls, which you can also run on GOV.UK with the registration. You will not usually pay for recall repairs.

  7. An itemised invoice with the date, mileage, registration or VIN, work done, part numbers and oil grade.

  8. A straight answer on whether the service will appear on Land Rover's online service history.

How to keep the service history credible for resale

Keep proof of every service in a form a buyer can check. Land Rover's Online Service History covers cars built from 1 July 2013, replaced the stamped service book and updates at each Approved Service Centre visit, so it may not show work done elsewhere.

JLR's technical portal, TOPIx, accepts registrations from independent garages, and online service history access is a separate option on a TOPIx account. At least one independent Land Rover specialist says on its website that it updates the record through TOPIx. A garage without that access cannot, so ask before you book. Either way, keep the paperwork:

  • Every itemised invoice in date order, as the original and as a scan.

  • The mileage on every invoice, which buyers can compare with the mileage recorded at each MOT on the GOV.UK MOT history service.

  • Receipts for time based work such as brake fluid, and for parts replaced between services.

  • The online history, printed, at the front of the file when you sell.

How to pay less for a Land Rover or Range Rover service

Pay for the service that is due, at a price you have compared like for like, and nothing more.

  • Ask which stage of the schedule is due before you ask for a price. On one independent's current list, the third service on a Range Rover Sport 3.0 diesel costs £349 more than the first, before VAT.

  • Get two quotes against your registration, one from a retailer and one from an independent, with the scheduled extras listed separately. For a car over three years old, check the retailer's quote uses Beyond 3 pricing.

  • Have a warning light read when it appears, so the service quote covers the fault. For a suspension warning, see our guide to Range Rover suspension faults.

Land Rover servicing: frequently asked questions

What is a Land Rover A or B service?

A and B are the two types of scheduled service in Land Rover's service schedules, and they alternate: A, then B, then A again. The letter tells the technician which operations on the maintenance check sheet are due at that visit. The content also varies with the model, the car's age and its mileage, so ask for the list of operations for your car.

Do I really need to service my Land Rover every year?

Only if your car's schedule sets 12 months. From the 2016 model year, Land Rover's schedule allowed 24 months on the Evoque and Discovery Sport 2.0 diesel but 12 on the 2.0 petrol. Follow the SERVICE message on the instrument panel. It can appear early after hard use, and the time limit still applies when you drive few miles.

What happens if I miss a Land Rover service?

You put the warranty and the engine at risk. Land Rover's warranty does not cover faults caused by failing to maintain the car to its schedules, and its owner information warns that skipped services can cause premature engine wear. A missed service also leaves a gap in the history that a buyer will see, so book it now and keep the invoice.

Is a Land Rover service plan worth it?

It suits owners who will stay with a Land Rover retailer and want a fixed monthly cost, since the price holds for the whole term and the balance can move to your next Land Rover. It suits you less if you plan to use an independent, because Authorised Repairers carry out plan services. Compare the total, management fee included, with the services priced one at a time.
